This Sunday, we need to work because of the Labor Day holiday, so the weekly report will be moved to Saturday. This week has been a stressful one, but I still gathered my spirits and started writing the weekly report. This is somewhat of a good thing. It also proves that publishing on a public platform can provide some extra motivation.
Learning#
English#
- I am continuing to learn new words, aiming for 50 new words per day along with reviewing. I only achieved this goal for the first three days of the week.
Technology#
- I did not read any books.
- I made progress in learning Rust. I finished reading the introductory chapters this week. I also started taking a Rust-related course during my spare time.
- I did not do any coding exercises. I will keep this reminder until I start being able to contribute to open source projects.
- I did not work on any open source projects. I will keep this reminder until I have the ability to make pull requests.
Work#
- It was a bit shaky, but there were no major mistakes.
Life#
- This week, I experienced a severe outbreak of rhinitis and gastroenteritis, so I went to the hospital and got medication.
- History: None, except for a few videos on Bilibili. This time, I recommend the "History Research Room" and "Rick Zero".
- Leisure: I watched two episodes of "Slower Horse" and started playing "Frostpunk" again. I really enjoy the feeling of planning and organizing.
- Behavioral practice: None. I was in a poor state this week.
- Investment: A very good friend shared a private investment channel with an annual interest rate of over 8%. This part should come to an end. After this, I probably won't research other investment methods for a while, except for cryptocurrencies.
Some Thoughts#
The keywords for this week are "out of control" and "collapse". In the first three days, I experienced the most severe allergic rhinitis in my life, but at the same time, I strictly followed my own time management plan, which ultimately led to a complete collapse.
I stayed up late, overate, wanted to consume, refused to exercise and study, tried to find ways to be happy but couldn't, and even doubted my ability to feel happiness. However, staying up late, overeating, and not exercising only made my physical condition worse and prevented me from correcting it in a timely manner.
Therefore, almost all progress this week stagnated due to factors such as illness and my own strictness. I originally reserved half a day of entertainment time on weekends and time to watch animations and videos on the elliptical machine, but in practice, I realized that studying, working, and exercising from morning till night left no time for these entertainment activities. This ultimately led to severe procrastination and a sense of meaninglessness. This also made me realize the importance of entertainment once again. Humans are not machines, at least I am not. Treating myself like a machine will only lead to losing control, just like the protagonist in "The Shining".
Therefore, I made further adjustments to my schedule. I added mandatory half-hour breaks every day, with half an hour for lunch as a work adjustment and one hour as free entertainment time in the evening, playing games or watching movies. At the same time, I will make sure to go out at least once a month. I will maintain these behaviors to improve my learning and life, and continue to track and make adjustments.
In practice, I also vaguely feel that when unable to feel happiness, engaging in unconventional forms of entertainment and creativity may be a better approach. For example, when I am currently writing the weekly report or focusing on a piece of code, it is easier to immerse myself in a state of flow, which reduces the subsequent sense of meaninglessness.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
